Weather: The 2010 harvest was marked by a very cold winter with heavy frost patches. Weather improved in the spring and early summer months with cool and consistent temperatures. During August and September storms and humid conditions complicated the ripening process and much of the Pinot Noir being thin skinned largely succumbed to rot. Dom Perignon’s vineyards in the Grand Cru village of Verzenay produced some outstanding Pinot Noir, but there weren’t many examples of great PN from 2010. By contrast Chardonnay was super high quality, one of the best Chardonnay years within the last ten years.

Edouard Delaunay, Nuits-Saint-Georges Founded in 1893, Delaunay is back in the ownership of fifth-generation Laurent Delaunay. The original négociant business, established by his great-great-grandfather Edouard, was one of the most prestigious names in Burgundy. They were the distributors of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and exclusive for La Romanée until the 1940s. Laurent purchased the business back from Jean Claude Boisset in 2017. This included the cellars next to their family home, Château de Charmont, in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Laurent and wife Catherine have access to some of the best vineyards in the Côte d’Or. Each cuvée is treated individually allowing the wines to offer the purest expression of each terroir. Edouard Delaunay has produced another stunning 2020 vintage showing wonderful purity and complexity across the range.
Extremely elegant and intense with terrific focus and energy. An enveloping nose of delicate cassis fruits leads to a very elegant and concentrated palate with fine, seamless tannins and beautifully pure flavours. Clearly a wine with plenty of potential. Drink from 2028.
